An Introduction: Welcome to the blog!
Hello and welcome to the first post of this blog. On this site, we’ll be talking about all things mental, emotional and social health related. Including wisdom from philosophical traditions, the teachings of life experience, and the latest findings from scientific research.
About me:
I’m a counsellor and therapist, trained in the Person-Centred tradition, but with a broad range of psychotherapeutic interests. I have a passion for studying philosophy, history, social sciences and spiritual traditions and try to integrate my learning into my practice as a counsellor.
My mission as a counsellor and therapist is to delve into the factors that promote good mental and social health, as well as what makes therapy work and how people find their way to happiness and growth after struggling through difficult periods of poor mental health. I’m always striving to learn how to improve people’s outcomes and day-to-day experience of happiness and fulfilment.
As a therapist, I believe that many experiences that we’ve stigmatised and isolated under terms like ‘disease’ and ‘disorder’ are better understood as understandable reactions to the extraordinary events that people often face in their lives. No matter someone’s starting point, I believe that it’s possible to change, grow and learn new strategies to navigate our internal and external worlds. I believe that it’s possible for most people to do so given the right conditions and tools.
What’s next:
Starting soon, I’ll post the first article of the first series on this blog. “Demystifying Anxiety” will look at what anxiety is, what causes it, and a myriad of strategies to deal with it when it becomes too much.
