Meet Me
Marcus O’Shea, MSc Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I am a qualified counsellor with registered membership in the BACP and the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). My foundational training is in Person-Centred therapy, a school of therapy that focuses on creating an empathic, understanding and non-judgemental space for clients to talk through their issues and come to the solutions that are right for them. In addition, I integrate aspects of CBT, ACT, Mindfulness and Somatic/Body-oriented schools of therapy, to provide clients with a flexible toolbox of techniques to use between sessions. I also provide Written Exposure Therapy (WET), a leading, safe treatment for PTSD and Complex Trauma, that takes only 5 sessions.
I am qualified to work with a wide variety of issues and clients. Specialist areas of focus include Single and Complex Trauma and its effects on the mind and body, LGBTQIA+ issues, international clients, Disability and Neurodiversity, Poly/NM relationships issues, Depression, Social Anxiety, and General Anxiety.
My Approach
My approach to therapy is integrative, but grounded in Client-Centred Practice. I believe each client is unique, and seek to establish an empathic, accepting space where you can feel safe to share your feelings and experiences, talk through the issues you’re facing, and find the solution that’s right for you.
From there, I can offer a variety of tools and techniques that can help between sessions, drawn from the Somatic, Cognitive-Behavioural, ACT, and Mindfulness schools of therapy.
I also work from a trauma informed and trained basis, which means I am experienced in how to work through and process trauma with clients in a safe manner.
My areas of specialty include:
Single and Complex Trauma.
ADHD Management
LGBTQ+ Issues.
Neurodiversity.
Disability issues.
Social and General anxiety.
Depression.
Gender, relationships and sexuality (including Poly/NM aware approaches)
Transforming mental healthcare through Feedback Informed Therapy
Feedback Informed Therapy is an approach that can be applied to any school of therapy. It involves actively seeking ongoing feedback from clients and adjusting the focus and structure of sessions to better deliver counselling that best suits people’s needs.
It has been shown in scientific studies to improve outcomes for many clients in both the short and long term.
